How much do people typically give as holiday bonus? |
We were planning on a week’s pay as an additional bonus for Christmas. |
Do what you can/want. Nothing is expected ![]() I come from Europe and most people don't get bonuses at work for Christmas so if she's from there or from another country where it's not common she will only be happy if she gets a sentimental present from you and/or your children ![]() Former AP. |
i spread it through the year. I gave AP $50 for Thanksgiving, will do another 50-60 for Christmas + small gift. Then another 50-60 for her birthday + small gift and then another 50-60 pocket money when she travels for vacation. I agree with PP that you should do what you can, nothing should be expected beside Christmas and birthday gifts. I don't get a bonus at my job like never. |
Well I come from UK and many employees in my country gets thirteenth salary. Maybe your country former AuPair, but stop saying all Europe, thanks |
We do $150 and a bunch of gifts that are practical for a total of about $300. |
We do one weeks pay, plus small gifts. I got a scarf/hat set, Sephora gift card, and 5 of $1 cozy socks that were on sale this weekend at Old Navy. I likely (if I make it to the mall) will get her a cute / cheap set from bath and body works (they ones that are like 3/$20 during this time of year). |
We will do a $1,000 bonus plus a gift (a pretty shawl that cost around $65). |
I'm the PP, and I didn't realize this was for au pairs. We have a nanny, not an au pair. For an au pair, I would give $300 and a gift. |
Since when the UK is in Europe ? lol |
We don't do a bonus but this year we will do a stocking with gift cards for things we know she likes (a yoga studio, dance classes), bath salts, cozy socks etc, and a nice hoodie. We are already pretty generous with paying for outings etc. When we had nannies we paid them a bonus equal to one week's salary but I think an au pair is different.

Uh? Do you know your geography and history? the UK is most definitely IN and a part of Europe (at least for now), I am also from Europe (different country) and bonuses are also a thing. Especially for people in the service industry (like nannies, carers, cleaners etc...) |
Bonuses are not a thing in all of Europe, no. We do not give APs a holiday bonus, nor do we do gifts (neither we or AP celebrate Christmas). We do give her extra cash for her birthday, and give her extra time off. Having an AP is very expensive for us, and we told her we prefer to invest in experiences and take her with us, when it suits her. Different strokes for different folks. |
