22$ an hour nanny share RSS feed

Anonymous
I'm currently seeking employment and have been approached by families wanting to do a nanny share but at 22$ an hour. Just curious when did 22$ an hour 11$ from each family become a "competitive" rate? 2 babies, 2 schedules, very little down time. I've been asking 13-14$ each family but seems to be too high for parents. Am I missing something? I have over 10 years experience teaching and a early childhood degree. What is the rate for a single baby and a share in DC ?

Keep looking, OP. That is too low. Educated and experienced nannies are getting $25 for one child pretty regularly now.

Where are you located, OP?

That’s low, too low, OP. Pass on these offers and sign with an agency. You could easily get $22 an hour for one infant.

Keep looking. Being a nanny is not even my career path I am taking but I took care of twins for $24/hour and I don't have a degree yet.

That is a reasonable rate. You have to realize not everyone is a high earner and in order to pay you, their salary, minus taxes, and all that good stuff plus a little left over.

An early childhood education degree is usually community college for two years. Not a masters.

If $12-$15 an hour is too expensive then you shouldn’t be looking into a nanny for care.

I wouldn’t take anything under $25 ($12.50 per family) for a share. With a share a family is already getting a cheaper rate.

Parents have to understand that having a nanny is not a right! Lots of you simply can not afford to hire a nanny.

That is not a reasonable rate for two babies when a nanny can get the same for just one baby. Why would anyone work twice as hard for the same wage?! How is that “reasonable”?

Can you afford to live in DC on $22/hr? What would your housing situation be if you had to?

I know that rate sounds low, but perhaps it is a bit lower because there will guaranteed overtime hours included in the work week. That would push up your overall salary substantially and creates a much higher average per hour rate than $11 or $12 sounds like initially...

Where do you think you are going to get a job making $30-40 an hour outside babysitting? That is double minimum wage and reasonable.

Yes, I have lived off less. I lived in a group house and then later got married.
