Au pair leaving after 2 years

Our au pair is leaving us after 2 years. Super super sad  Do you send off your au pairs with a little extra cash? If so, Like how much? A new au pair will arrive soon after and I prefer to give a welcome cash to her as well (an extra week) needless to say we are also sending off our lovely au pair with personalized presents.

This clearly depends on your own finances, but maybe $500?

I'd do $400, which is two weeks of her stipend (we give one week's for an AP who leaves us after one year). |

Do what you can afford and are happy to give.
Whatever amount it is I'm sure she will be happy 
However I wouldn't give any extra cash to the arriving AP. I get it you want to start on the right foot and be welcoming but I feel a nice little basket really does it ... and you will be able to show your appreciation later on. Former AP

I was devastated when my au pair of 2 years left us in March. I made a quick picture / memory book for her, and gave her 1000. We do not pay above the stipend amount (other than of course rounding to $200), and felt that she deserved that amount (and more!) for all the ways that she supported my boys over the last two years (the awful period when my son was refusing to poop in the potty and pooping on himself, tantrums, new school transitions, illnesses, snow days) really the list goes on and on. We talk every other week, and she knows that she will always have a place to call home in America.
I did the standard welcome basket for my incoming au pair. Two big regrets that I have ... having too long of an overlap with my old au pair and my new au pair, and not realizing how hard it would be to transition to someone new :/ |
