New MB can’t pay me for almost 3 weeks. RSS feed

I just started a new job and worked 1 day as a trial shift. MB is a single mom and returned to work today. She asked me if she could pay me on her pay periods, which are the 8th and 24th. I assumed I would be paid on this 24th, but MB told me she won’t have anything on this pay check because of her cut off periods and my first full pay check won’t be until the 8th.

This has put me in a tough position. Is it normal to wait almost 3 weeks for your first check?! My previous NF both paid me on a weekly basis so this is new to me and I have my own bills to pay.

Depends what you negotiated in your contract. I was paid monthly on my previous two jobs but every other week on this job.

If this causes you a hardship, please tell her.

I only accept positions that pay weekly.

Most Nannies, including me prefer to be paid on a weekly basis.
Usually on Fridays or whatever day they work last at the end of a week.

No way would I wait a full three weeks for my first paycheck.
Especially for a brand-new job.

Red flag.

No way. She needs to pay. In an office job, there sometimes a two week or even month holdback but that not your issue.

Don't be a chump. Get out now because she cannot afford you! Every payday, she is going to short you.

I’ve been paid monthly too and have waited a full month for a first check. It never occurred to me to worry or doubt them. I knew where they lived and had keys to their house...

I would NEVER wait more than 14 days MAX for a paycheck. Don’t be stupid.

Red flags!

I would find a new job ASAP. She clearly doesn't have enough money to pay you now and is living paycheck to paycheck.

In the future, if something goes wrong with her home/car/etc. (and it will), she will have to pay for that instead of paying you.

MB here. You should decline this job. She should be able to cover your first paycheck without relying on her first paycheck.

I am a single mom and i agree this is a red flag. Get your paycheck and get out.

MB here. Red flag. The second anything unexpected happens financially, you won't get paid. Cars break down, home repairs and medical bills come up...

Op here. She paid me in cash for my first two days.

She paid me for this week, it was no problem.

I asked her if she could pay me every week and she said no and said she could pay me on her pay days. I’d really like to be paid every week.

It’s stupid to stay there. But do what you want.
