Au pair only eats junk food RSS feed

We love our au pair!! Our only concern is her diet. Not very healthy at all and very skewed towards desserts. She eats out a lot too. She hasn’t raised it at as an issue, and pays for the junk food herself, but I am concerned she is not eating enough? Should I say something? Or if it’s not broke don’t try to fix it?

Don't say anything

She is an adult and can eat what she wants . My only concern would be eating only junk in front of children. If she’s eating out then the kids don’t see it.

No, she's pretty discreet.

My AP does similar stuff. One week she is on some crazy diet and the next she is stuffing her face with cookies. This week she has eaten out with her friends every evening. Poor food choices seems to be typical young adult behavior. I wouldn't say anything unless you are concerned about the safety of your children or if she was asking you to pay for stuff.

It's none of your business.
It would be if she were to eat like this in front of the children though.

She's an adult. She can eat whatever she wants.

As others have said she is an adult. And beyond that she is also a young adult. My college diet was nothing to be admired but I eventually grew up and starting eating better.

We have taken to Costco to buy cookies and nutella. She literally at an entire Costco size box of those thin cookies with half dipped in chocolate in 3 days. She's only been here 2 months. I'm betting she will leave next year 30lbs heavier. That's her issue, not mine. The way she eats costs me much less than our former healthy eaters.

If you see she gains weight just tell her nicely, like a mom would say it to her daughter Apart from that there's not much you can do.

Our ap is a “health nut”; and she really is....but eating 2lbs of fruit everyday and other nut mixes by the pound she is getting fat after 2 months.
It is super expensive to buy fruit 3x a week and a pia. In about a month her clothes should fitting and that (hopefully) will have her cut back.

...do you not remember your early 20s? In college I frequently did 2 am nacho runs and slept til 12, waking only to go to cafeteria for brunch to eat like 10 sausages. I was tiny like a size 0. This is not abnormal.

Ugh. I think APs have the grossly inaccurate view that Americans eat unhealthy food and that gives them an excuse to eat whatever they want. Don't say anything though.

Un, many of these girls are not tiny.

OP - please don't do this. People know when they've gained weight. No need for the commentary.
