We require this and pay for it. AP said her friend is required to get one and is supposed to pay for it herself. That can’t be ok per program rules???

You require- you pay. There are no rules governing flu shots. As a matter of fact- they are not required to get a flu shot by program rules, so you cannot require it either.

I would give the other HF the benefit of the doubt. You are hearing about this from your AP, who was told by her friend. How sure are you that the AP understood her HF correctly? Or perhaps she is just trying to be dramatic. HFs need to not be so quick to judge other HFs when you are getting second hand information, especially when it is coming from not one, but two people that English is a second language.

Of course, it is possible that she understood her HF correctly and they are requiring her to get one and pay for it, and that would be wrong and she has ever right to stand up for herself and say no.

You have no right to require it and should be ashamed forcing the AP to get it.

Of course it’s fine to require ap to get one - just disclose before matching and make sure ap is aware. It’s important for everyone working with and living around young kids to get a flu shot. And yes, the host family should pay if it costs anything. Many options for free ones as well.

Not OP, but we require it as well. We have every right to require it. We have a severely asthmatic child. If AP doesn't like it, then don't match with us because we discuss this at length in matching.

I am not ashamed for the desire to keep my child alive.

YOu should be ashamed for being an anti-science hack.

+100, I feel like HFs on this board are so quick to judge other HFs. The flu shot costs $30 at most, so really hard imagining even the craziest HF fighting about that.

It’s true. I can’t hold her down and force her but I can rematch if she won’t do it. The flu kills children. Why would I take the risk?

If you're upfront about it when matching and that she agrees, fine. Otherwise you can't force her once she's there.

I can tell her that without a medical exemption I will rematch. I won’t risk my children for anti science woo.

+1 - except if her health is already compromised and could not get a flu shot I probably would rematch still.

True, but she could have a medical exemption due to allergy or previous adverse reaction. My son has one (thankfully after receiving almost every childhood vaccine!). He can’t get a flu shot or boosters for anything so that’s what makes vaccinations super important to us.
