Nanny Cam(era) Question RSS feed

I work for a family that have a few cameras in their home.

All in full view & I was told about them upon hire and am okay w/them.

Why do my employers ask me when they get home “How was your day today?”

Or “Was Johnny a good boy today?”

Can’t they just look at the camera footage & automatically know??!

Maybe they truly just want to know how your day was? I have cameras but I don't sit and watch them all day (I am at work, working). I always ask my nanny how her day was.

Most Nanny cameras do not have the capability to watch previous footage...??

Also, for the ^^ above PP, why did you purchase the cameras if you never look at them?
* Not trying to be snarky.
I just don’t understand why you would add to your home expenses if you do not utilize them.

Serious query.

Your employers are being polite in asking and don’t spend all day watching the cameras. Plus, don’t you ever leave the house? The cutest things happen when I have my charge out and about.

Here's an example: On Thursday I checked in on the cameras twice - once they were outside and once they were snuggling on the couch reading.

So I don't know how the entire day went, or if my child was well behaved throughout the day.

If you agreed and you were ok since the beginning; having cameras watching you all the time; it's simple. It's nice that you got used to it already and you feel confortable; in not having privacy to relax a little bit in your break, while eatting your lunch, going to the bathroom so many times when you have diarrea, wipe your watery running nose lot of times when you have a cold or allergies. This being said; obviously bcs of the cameras the Parents will know how was everything during the day. And this means everything. As every Parent like to know How was everything with their kids: You just can tell them. "Ohh our day was great".

I’ve never worked for a family that didn’t have cameras and I still have a rundown of our day. I assume the parents aren’t watching constantly if at all.

NBD.

Why are you working with babies when you have diarrhea?! And if you have it often enough to be concerned about your time in the bathroom while working, you need to see a gastroenterologist.

I encourage my employers to put in cameras and still manage to relax when the kids are napping. You’re being silly, PP. You’re at work and not in your own home.

We have cameras, but I never look at them to check on our nanny. They’re there for the cleaners, occasional sitters, repair people, that is, people we don’t know as well so likewise can’t trust as much, and for when we’re not at home. They are on all the time because it’s a hassle to switch them off then on again when we feel like we need them.

^^ Not really a huge hassle for us.
We just do everything w/a tap or two onscreen with our iPhones.

We don’t have to manually turn the actual cameras off or on.

PP you’re referring to. It’s more remembering to switch them rather than the act of doing so.

Is it normal for families to have nanny cams? Does that turn nannies off from taking a job?

I am a good nanny and want cameras in the home. I want my employers to see how hard I work. However, I am in Los Angeles and have never even been to a home where there weren’t cameras so it wouldn’t turn off any good nannies here. I don’t know about DC.

In the DC area it is not normal. Been a nanny for the past 15years and have not seen a nanny cam.

Depends on what you consider normal. It would turn me off and if you installed them at a later date I would be making moves to get another position.
