HFs, my AP has another AP friend that is need to birth control. What options do they have for some kind of pill? It doesn't seem like their insurance covers these types of things. Yes, they know about condoms but are looking for a daily pill, or shot, something along those lines. |
Planned Parenthood. |
AP mentioned going here. Is DC the only one around? Perhaps this is dumb question, but will they run into protestors outside or anything I should warn them about? |
They will deal with whatever protesters may be there. Let people deal with things. |
I used PP as my provider for my annual exams and for BC for years in college and as a young adult. I went to the location in Frederick MD and never encountered anything like that. I usually went first thing in the morning because at the time there were no appointments (if I remember correctly) and they saw you on a first-come-first-served basis and I didn't want to be sitting there for hours. Never had a negative experience in any way--from the staff to the providers, and no protesters or anything like that. Was all totally normal.
Can you offer to go with her? Doctors appointments are always a bit intimidating anyways. |
Thank you for the helpful information. I would offer to go if my schedule allowed and it was my AP, but my AP says her friend is a bit shy. She is wanting to go without an appointment, I tried to see if they have walk ins at the one in DC but couldn’t find any information. I also tried calling but was on hold too long. |
Curious why the AP friend is not requested her HM help? |
Well that is useless. Of course I’ll “let them deal” but it’s a good idea to warn people that they might be screamed at and give them advice on how to handle it. I’d appreciate if I was in a different country and someone told me that if I walked into a certain building that I might get yelled at. |
OP here, I’m not sure I’ve never met her before. My AP says she is shy, so maybe that is it. I have no idea how her relationship is with her HF. |
So you're helping a young girl you've never met get birth control? Perhaps it's actually your AP.
Yes... planned parenthood. |
When I lived in MD (Gaithersburg) I drove up to Frederick for all kinds of things: Costco runs, MVA, Social Security office and vehicle emissions. If she has access to a car it would be worthwhile to go up there because it is usually much less crowded and people seem a bit more helpful than in Rockville/DC. Worth the drive, IMO, and while she is up there she could check out "downtown" Frederick which has a lot of great restaurants, a beautiful park, a lovely vintage clothes store (venus on the half shell) and is fun to walk around.
The comment to "deal" with things was not helpful, but there may be less to "deal with" up in Frederick. |
Thank you for the helpful information, I’ll pass it along. Rockville isn’t far. |
Goodness. You are aware that people from... most other countries are actually not accustomed to being met by prostestors when seeing a doctor about their health or getting birth control? And that it might be an overwhelming situation for a young foreigner? Just take a quick look into other first world countries where you can just make an appointment with a medical professional (be it a GP or an OB/GYN), walk into their office without getting harassed and actually have your check up (and often prescriptions) paid by your health insurance. Without feeling as if you are a bad person or doing something wrong... Horrible idea, isn't it? |
Unless I’m DH and getting a benefit, not my problem. |
What school is she taking classes? Do they have a health center? |
