MB would you be offended if RSS feed

your nanny said something like this.

"look at his double chin"

"yum yum his thighs look like KFC drumstick"

"his big round tummy"

Is this nanny talking about a child or whom?

Yes I would.

Even if my child was still in infancy.

My DS was very obese as an infant (skinny now!)
As an infant, I heard strangers mutter things such as, “Look at his legs, they look like they belong on an elephant!”

Why are you asking?

In my contract MB requested picture of her son to be send as many as possible. Today I took picture of the baby and send it to her. Pic showing baby done eating and down tilt his face and showed double chin. I texted "Done eating. double chin"

MB told me do not make fun of her baby. She said her son wont appreciate it. I told her I dont mean to body-shaming her son at all and apologizes.

Few months ago I told MB her son need a big car seat. The infants car seat is too small and hard to fasten the belts due to his big round tummy.

I need a big size pants for her son because size 6 months too small for him and mention the kfc thighs.

Well lesson learned.

Uh yes...
These were definitely offensive phrases.

Try to practice a little more tact in the future please.

KFC thighs?! Ridiculous! You should never have said that.

Noting that her child is growing well as needs larger clothes is appropriate. I don’t know anyone who uses an infant seat that won’t fit after 6 months, it’s more likely that the straps just need to be let out a bit. And pointing out a double chin on ANYONE is inappropriate.

Do you know anything about babies, weight gain/retention and what happens when they become mobile?! They need the extra weight, because it will be padding when they fall and provide extra energy for new movement. Also, toddler tummy is not fat, it’s organs that aren’t held in tightly by muscles, because babies and toddlers have very little core strength.

I wouldn't, no. But if you work for someone who you know is sensitive in this way then you need to modify your language.

I wouldn't be offended exactly, but I would ask you to stop commenting on my child's body size. You can just say "He seems to have grown out of his 6M pants and is ready for the next size up," without saying he has chicken drumsticks for thighs or whatever.

+1

Especially if they are in denial and cannot see that their baby has clearly grown out of everything. Also, this isn’t body shaming. Babies have no shame and don’t care. Your MB has shame and is embarrassed.

They sure don’t sound like compliments. Be more professional.

Things we say:

“Luscious thighs”
“Chubby dimpled wrists”
“Chubby bunny”

These are things said with love. I don’t blame your employer for not detecting a kind, loving tone from your word choice. Not everyone is a poet but your comments do sound judgmental and negative.

Why would a parent want someone with such poor judgment to be with her child on a full time basis?

No

This is so weird! I take it as a huge compliment if people comment on the 'fatness' of my baby, and she's only a little bit fat. It's a testimony to all my hard work! This is the only age where being fat is seen as a good thing.

I'm English. Is this an American thing? I don't want to inadvertently commit a cultural faux pas....

Saying your baby is fat, chubby or healthy is okay. Comparing her to food is not.
