Visa renewal if AP is 27? RSS feed

Anonymous
Our AP was 26 when she started the program, is 27 now, and would like to extend. She would like to go home and get a new visa (which I understand many APs do). Does anyone have experience with an AP renewing their visa when they are 27? I'm wondering if she'll have trouble at the embassy in her home country because she's 27.

My AP was in the same boat. No trouble at all.

May depend on country of origin.

Same for us, she is from the UK.

I wonder if the PPs realize the OP's au pair is already 27? OP I would tread very carefully on this one if the au pair is already 27 (or will be 27 before re-entering the US). Terms of the J-1 visa say they have to enter before they're 27 and I wouldn't want to make an au pair navigate that reentry particularly, unfortunately, is they're non-white.

As long as she was 26 when she entered the US on her original / first J1 having turned 27 during her first year should not be a problem when renewing her visa in her home country and when re-entering the US. Unless of course she runs into somebody on a power trip when reentering, which can always happen.
