How far out to start interviewing nannies? RSS feed

I’m looking to hire a nanny for my preschoolers, but do not need care until the end of August. When should I start interviewing candidates? I’m assuming that some candidates already know that their current charges will be starting school and will not need care after the summer months?

You could probably start now as some nannies have already agreed to a summer position a may need something lined up for the Fall. But definitely no later than the end of April.

I started 3 months before I needed them to start.

The earlier the better, I do agree.

Yet there would be some risk involved if the prospective Nanny were to change her plans.
Especially if she is young.

Perhaps offer a retaining bonus.
Payable w/her first paycheck...?

My employers are moving in July so I’m already keeping a tentative eye out for a job that starts sometime in August. I’m sure there are also plenty of nannies that need jobs as families phase them out with the start of full time school. It might not hurt to put feelers out there in the coming months but I would not start looking in earnest until May or so.
