To all:

I am looking for a good nanny, and was wondering how many of you on this forum use those services for employement? What is your opinion of those services, and their quality.

Care.com but you have to screen carefully and go through hundreds of responses. Better to use care.com to search for nannies/profiles rather than look at ad responses

I am a career nanny. I used to use Care but takes too much filtering and time. On top of that people generally don’t want to pay what I require for basic living. And now they make the nannies pay to use the site, no thanks! With an agency we are both vetted and neither one of us is waisting our time.

How much per hour is basic living for you? I am just curious so I can budget appropriately.

Agree with most of this.

Care.com is just horrible, especially with the changes they are constantly making for nannies. A nanny should never have to pay to find a job period. I too have found that most of the families using care.com do not want to pay well and typically aren’t serious about hiring. They seem to use it for a trial run.

I am strictly word of mouth. You would have better luck going on your listserve and see who is helping their nanny find their next position.

NP...most families on care.com seem to think $15/hr is a reasonable rate. It’s not.

Care.com is one way I find jobs, but not exclusive way. Like PP said, most people on care.com are looking to pay less than I earn. However, the jobs I have taken off care.com have been with amazing families. I'd also recommend posting on DCUM, INA, and perhaps with a nanny agency if you want to widen your pool. Certain agencies are better for certain ages.

Agency, that’s it other than word of mouth.
