So, I just found out I am pregnant and I know you’re suppose to wait until after your first trimester to share the news but when exactly do you tell the families? I have been looking like a zombie so I am not sure how long I’ll be able to hide it and if my symptoms get worse it may interfere with my schedule (hopefully not long or even everyday) because I have a pretty decent commute.

Nannies, if you’ve been in my shoes, when did you share the news? Did you go back to work after the baby or did they let you go?

You need to make a plan and tell them this is what you want. If you have child care, then they need to know to make maternity leave child care arrangements for their kids. If you want to bring the child, are you going to work at a discounted rate or are they even ok with that as a newborn takes a lot of time.

How early do you tell them? I wouldn’t ask to bring my child but if they brung it up, I would consider it. I don’t want to put that type of pressure on anyone but I’m not exactly sure if I would continue to commute as I would be missing my babies whole day; I leave at 6am and don’t get home until 7:30pm.

Ds' nanny told us around 10 weeks. She hadn't planned on it but was really struggling with morning sickness and felt she had to tell us before we thought something was wrong.

She went out around 36 weeks and was out for 2.5 months. 1 month paid extra and 2 of her vacation weeks. So about half the time she got paid. Came back after with her baby as DS was starting AM preschool anyways. So in the morning she hung out with her baby and did some stuff around the house. When her kid was about 8 months old her mom moved close to them and took the baby in the afternoons.

Has worked out well. I know she plans to have another one and we do as well. Ds will be in full day school in the fall so hopefully it will work out well again. Haha I am secretly hoping we can have babies around the same time because logistics would be so, so easy

Thanks. We've been lucky that between money, mine and DHS work schedules, and nearby family that we have a lot of coverage and wiggle room to make things work.

Isn't it illegal to fire a woman for begin pregnant? Where are all the Women's March-ers in this?? Hypocrites!

Haven't you noticed that "women's rights" are for only for rich uppity women? If you take CARE of THEIR children, you deserve ZERO rights.

"Begin" of course should be "being."

I am a middle class white woman in my 50s who marched for the ERA in front of the White House. I began reading Ms. magazine at age 13. I escorted girls and women into abortion clinics while being threatened by anti-choicers. I am a dedicated feminist.

Frankly I have had it with the liberal upper/ middle class/ rich women of this country, of any color. None of them seem remotely interested in raising their own children, and treating their nannies and au pairs as lowly servants instead of sisters in the continuing march for equal legal and economic rights.

I agree with everything the OP said except that only-children are missing out.

As a nanny, you are a household employee, not an equal. If all women stayed home, you wouldn't have a job.

It’s not though. I once mentioned to me ex boss that my nanny friend had been let go at 10 weeks when she told her boss she was pregnant and my boss thought it was the right decision. It’s why I left that job because I knew I wanted to start a family soon.

It’s a shame women treat each other this way.
