Who is going through sleep training. How you deal?
How about rubbing back , rocking and bouncing?
Thanks

IMO, five months is too young for sleep training. The baby probably has reflux. Concentrate on good sleep hygiene by having the same before bed routine, staying in low light for 30 minutes prior to putting the baby down and putting down very drowsy but still awake.

If baby is reflux, you don't put a baby laying flat down after eating or 30 minutes.

You can most definitely start sleep training as early as 4 months. Yes, if a baby has reflux you need to wait 30 min- 1 hour before laying them down and that goes for nap and playing on the floor. You also shouldn’t have the baby reclined back while feeding and should burp them frequently.

Do you use a sleep sack or noise machine? That could help. The purpose of sleep training is to teach the child how to self soothe and for them to sleep through the night. If you comfort him/her every time then he/she will look forward to that each time and you will get nowhere. The first few times (maybe the first week) you can go in and say your okay, and rub his/her head (don’t pick him/her up) but then that must come to an end. The first time you can go in after 5 minutes of crying then gradually go up to 10, 20, 30 but then no more. If you continue to go in, your telling them that every time they cry you will come and comfort them- it’s hard but it’s worth it and help baby in the long run. Although it breaks our hearts to hear them cry, a baby can cry up to 4 hours and nothing be wrong with them. If you know he/she isn’t hungry or needs a diaper change stick to your guns but I’ve never had an infant cry longer than an hour before falling asleep.

My current charge is a 6 month old boy and we started at 4 months because they waited until 6 months and then after age 1 for the girl and she still sleeps with her parents. She’ll be 3 this summer. He wouldn’t sleep through the night and want bottles all throughout the night. Now he may wake up once and put himself to sleep but if he’s not feeling well the get him and I do the same when I have him.

Oh, and be sure to use the same routine that tells baby it’s time to sleep: sleep slack, close blinds, play soft music, put in night light etc. and when you sleep train it’s important to put them in the same napping place. Preferably a crib but if it’s a share a pack n play is fine but I wouldn’t recommend putting a child in a rock n play during this time.

Yes you can sleep train a five month old. Plus babies at that age can most definetively self sooth to sleep WITHOUT THE ROCKING OMG horrible for your back and shoulders! If you develop a good sleep rootine and hygiene. This baby will go down without any effort. I did this: Feed a solid food, change diaper, put them in clean PJ's, turn down lights, give warm milk, burp, put noise machine on, close door and turn on monitor. Don't go in if she cries...you did all she needs unless she is sick.
