Are bropairs still super popular? When we looked last year, they were in high demand... |
They are even more popular now |
How do you know? What has changed in the last 12 months? |
We are in matching process now and solid male candidates are maxed out in connections all the way to July arrival time frames. This is with ccap. There are more male candidates too. |
Yea...to attract a quality male AP candidate (we've hosted men for 4 years) we have had to offer a very competitive compensation package. |
What do you think makes a "high quality" candidate? And what changes have you made to your "package" to make it more competitive? |
We have boys so we want someone sporty. Not all male APs are into sports, or play sports. We want solid English speakers, so that usually limits is to Northern EU. We want someone outgoing at interview, someone with a personality (many of the men seem timid and nervous). Our last AP was Swedish, his English was perfect and he was ona. Pro hockey track and even attended a special hockey school in high school. He did go semiprofessional for a year and then tore his ACL and decided to go to college. We had him at age 21 the year before he went to college. He played non stop sports with my boys and I cannot even begin to tell you what a gift that was for them. Our package is that the 200/wk is considered by us a minimum, gym membership, ~10 days off xmas, 1 week Spring Break, 1 week off Thanksgiving, 2 weeks summer off, and all federal holidays off. Optional travel for skiing in Utah and optional travel to CA in summer for our family vacation, dedicated car, all personal gas paid (resonates huge with EU candidates). Full basement suite, 2 school aged kids. We are very upfront about the perks because these men have a lot of choices and when I want a candidate, I make sure I get it. |
I have noticed that we have become much cooler with a male au pair![]() |
Our males have all played some upper level/semi pro soccer in EU or Brazil.
We do not offer more stipend up front; but they do have own car and live at our beach house for half the summer with our boys. School aged, split schedule;5 days a week someone is going to practice and AP is taking one of them in spring and fall. 1 week skiing in Colorado; 3-4 weekend ski trips on east coast. |
Curious (no need to answer if you do not want to), why get a BroPair for your two daughters? If I only had two daughters it’s just something that I would never consider. |
Just wondering: who supervises the kids during all those extra weeks off? SAHM or WFH? |
Bro pairs are impossible to get unless you have perfect set up. Normally, two boys between 6-10 seems the easiest or most appealing. Young enough to control and old enough not to need too much nurturing.
Then the usual competition with own car; good area; nice housing; travel; etc. Lots of families in our school are moving to males this year after a family set the trend last couple of years. |
NP, my friend who did this is single mom, also heard of same sex female couple doing this. I also wonder if PP is in this category or maybe she just likes bropair. |

Us, the parents. When we are off our AuPair is off. It is not even 5 weeks of vacation since both of our companies are shut down between Christmas and New years. |
