I hate it. I get so put off by my employers thinking I should be excited to have both charges, 24/7, our of their routines in a strange place. It’s work for me.

I hope at least you're compensated for it. If not, make sure that gets put in your contract for next year.

OP here. Yes, I am well paid. I just still hate it.

I hate it too.

You don’t have any set hours? Your own room?
Anonymous
Ugh, I would hate that, as well. Any way you could just not go with them every time?
Anonymous
you need to have a frank discussion with your bosses and set clear boundaries.

24/7? That's a lot.

OP here. I don’t know what “clear boundaries” would be. I get a couple hours a day to myself but my job is to be with her and the family all the time. Of course she is in my room - they bring me so they can sleep in.

Yeah, I hate it.

Tell them you’ll need more time off so you don’t get burned out. When you accept a new job, tell them you’re happy to travel with them, but only with set hours and your own bedroom. If travel comes up, I always tell them my own requirement for work travel is my own room, even if it means a room at a less expensive hotel near where they’re staying.

I have two travel rates, and I’m clear with parents that their choices are what change my rates.

If I have a schedule that is set, my own room and at least 8 hours guaranteed for sleep, I prefer hourly, and it’s usually the same as my hourly rate with the family. If I share a room with at least one child, have a flex schedule or can’t plan ahead for activities, or can’t plan on 8+ hours to myself at night, I charge 24/7 rates. Either way, I expect to be off the day after we get back, or be paid a premium for being sleep-deprived.

Count the days and the extra money! Safe travels.

If you hate it then why did you take the job?

I actually love it. My job is a travel nanny 75% of the year. My bosses travel a lot. But I knew that when taking the job.

We have a great contract and we stick to it.

I require my own space. I require a set amount of pay. ETC

My next position hopefully will be the same amount of travel if not more.
