Help me with job offer RSS feed

Hi!
So I would like help with our job offer- before we publish it.
We are a 5yo with ASD. He is low verbal- but does communicate with words/signs
Ect. No behavior issues to speak of, just a sweet kiddo.
Job is 4 hours a week, two days afterschool. Pick up at 3:30 and transport 5 blocks back to our house. We are thinking of offering $30 an hour.
The extra factors are 1. In all honestly we will be home by 4:30- but pay for 2 hours. I just want to make sure someone can be around until 5:30 in the event that I have a staff meeting plus commute.
No housekeeping- no chores. Just hanging out with our son.
I know that finding an afterschool sitter is very difficult- much less one for a kiddo with a disability. But I figure we have to start somewhere

This is going to be very, very difficult to staff. Most people don’t want to do less than 3 hours per day, even at $30/hour. Add in that it’s only 2 days per week and also with a child with special needs... Can you swing guaranteeing three hours per day, and letting them go as soon as you are home? How about doing 3-4 days per week, that way this becomes more of the norm for your son, instead of being the disruption to the routine? Maybe the solution would be to do a daily rate, with a guarantee of no more than 4 hours, and pay something like $100 per day? Good luck OP!

Good luck, OP. That will be a tough position to fill and to retain.

All you need is one person who can make this fit with their lifestyle. I think the pay is competitive so why not post the job and see what you find? I know of a lot of nanny's in shares and things that want a little extra money.

One of the problems here will also be that you'll be home before the sitter is done. And no one wants that : your child won't understand you're home but you're not available for him, the sitter will feel she's observed ...
I would pay that extra hour and just run some errands or hide in my office until 5.30pm.

Get a high school kid who's sweet but kind of a loser. They'll be perfect for this and you can pay less than $30 to them.

Do you employ high schoolers? IME they’re far less responsible and reliable than I was at the same age.

Ask around at his school if there are any aides who would like to supplement their income with an afterschool job.

you can check the job board at American University. there are students (college students, so hopefully older/more responsible) who have availability only on some days of the week due to classes and so on, and they may like a job that pays well but that does not take a lot of time. I found a sitter years ago like that when I needed pick up after school.

If you can I would reach out to a parent at your kids school and see if anyone is interested.
We only need someone 2 days a week too and the days rotate but I have another Mom who does it and we pay her. Her son is the same age as my DD

IME, they are all involved in a million activities, and tutoring, and school events ... They want a job that works around them, not the other way around.

You may find some kid who actually needs a job and will be reliable, but it's hard.

Op here- to be clear when I get home the caregiver leaves. However we still pay for the entire shift. We need availability until 5:30, but not always those hours. We have a nearby friend who has been helping out the past two weeks. She’s a former AP and has a break in her schedule. She’s only needed to stay until 5:30 twice. The other days she is out the door by 4:45. However the pay remains consistent.
