Cash Birthday Gift RSS feed

Let me start with the fact that this is our first kid and first nanny, so I fully admit that I don't have any clue what I'm doing.

I have a small gift for my PT nanny for her birthday and we plan on adding a card and cash. The amount I originally thought of my husband thinks is too much. Which got me looking at the % of her pay the amount was, which I picked at random anyway-- the amount was 35% of her weekly salary. We aren't rich, we like our nanny, and our nanny makes good pay (more than she asked for), so I'm trying to balance everything out. Obviously it's hard to go too much, but what's too little? I'm thinking 15-20% of her salary?

How much, OP?

Do what you can afford. Be it $20, $50 or more.
What matters is to wish it to her and I'm sure she'll be happy

For a birthday, we did $50 (in a share, and I think the other family did around the same). Not everyone does birthdays at all, though (whereas virtually everyone does holiday bonuses, and there is an established rule of thumb there). There isn't a set amount that's "right" for that.

Full time $100, part time $50
