Has anyone done an international trip where the nanny goes with the family? Assuming nanny and family all have US passports, is there ever any issue with customs entering other countries because the nanny is technically “working” while she is there?
I might be overthinking this, but just a bit afraid of going to the expense and trouble of bringing our nanny only to get into some mess where they don’t allow her into the country or something. We currently do domestic trips with nanny and have all the other issues like pay, expenses and downtime sorted pretty well, but haven’t tried an international trip before. |
| I did this when I was a nanny. Didn't tell them I was working. |
| No issues whatsoever. Our nanny is an American citizen and older - no one even asked. We have been to Cuba and China, in fact, with our nanny with no problem |
| No issues at all and I have traveled all over the world as a nanny. I don’t think anyone (official, customs, security) has asked my relationship to the family. And I have been to Israel, Russia, China, Dubai, Europe, South America - everywhere. |

Great ask! We have not yet travelled internationally with our nanny, but excellent ask.
I'd also err on the side of making sure nanny checked the boxes that said leisure/tourist on the Visa forms, although she/manny is technically traveling for work. This had never crossed my mind before. |
| I do this all the time. For six years I've taken the nanny and kids on trips with me. No problem. |
| Great to know. Thanks all! -OP |
