Nanny share to nanny for just one family RSS feed

We are currently in a nanny share and love our nanny. We are expecting baby #2 this fall. The other family in the share is ready to move on to preschool, so we would like to keep the nanny for our own family. I am certain that she wants to stay with us for as long as possible, but we have not talked specifics yet.

For families and nannies who have navigated this transition, any tips? Would you suggest offering her current share rate, more, or less? The kids would be over 2 and 4 months if that helps. Thanks in advance.

Do not offer less. You are having another baby so the work load is going to be more since infants require a lot of special care

If you can afford to keep her at her same rate, then you should do so. If not, I would talk to your nanny about adjusting the salary to make sure it's something she can survive on and if you pay a less, possibly add an extra holiday or PTO day(s) to her package. You could also see if she would be interested in a new share (if that's something you're comfortable with), which, you could find another family who will have an infant around that time as well.

Why would she take less to be your exclusive nanny!

Obviously you should never expect her to work for less money! She could get another share with her experience earning more than she is currently. I would offer her a bit more and maybe a few other perks/benefits.

The rate for two kids in the same family is typically a little lower than for two kids in a share (because you only have to coordinate with one family). In this case, though, it sounds like the nanny is going from two toddlers to a toddler and a newborn, so I'd keep the rate the same.
