Mb and family will be leaving end of July for Their vacation that lasts one week.
I’ll take my vacation in December, since I can choose when to take mine. However, should I ask to be paid while they are on vacation? They said my vacation should be my choosing, but I’m still not clear on whether or not they should pay me when they leave. Is it common to pay your nanny when you’re on vacation and your nanny didn’t choose the same week? |
| Yes they should, but what does your contract say? |
| Most Nannies get 2 weeks paid vacation. 1 week of your choosing and 1 week of theirs. Any additional time off they take should also be paid if you are avail to work. |
I get paid one week of my choosing |
| We pay our nanny when we go on vacation. And we go for more than a week a year. We offer guaranteed hours. |

Hi OP.
Next time you interview explain to the potential family that you get paid like a preschool would. If you take your kid out of preschool for a week you still have to pay tuition for that week. I'm not sure if your current family would be willing to pay you this time. You may be SOL. |
Do you have guaranteed hours? Any additional vacation time? Do you have holidays and sick time? Most nannies get guaranteed hours but if this is your first job as a nanny you may not have negotiated that. |
I do have guaranteed hours. It was my first time doing a contract though. |
Guaranteed hours mean that you are paid for your contracted hours whether they use you or not, so yes, you will be paid. Are you paid via direct deposit? |
No I get weekly checked printed out |
| It depends on what your contract says, but yes, usually you are paid for any time when you are contracted to be available to work but not needed. |
| Yes they have to pay you. |
|
They pay you the guaranteed hours amount if they are on vacation or if you are on an approved vacation.
Have neither they nor you confirmed this now that they are taking their vacation. Just remind them or maybe ask like this, "Could you please pay me FW the guaranteed hours for your week off the day before you leave? Thanks! Then I'll see you Monday XYZ when you return" |
| Most likely they know this but never hurts to quickly clarify. |
| Do they want you available when they return? If so, they better pay you or you should start looking for a new job and have a contract that says you are paid even if they don't need you. |
