Help, I need advise on my rates changed RSS feed

Anonymous

So for 1 infant used to pay me $21 per hour FT. Now the mom of the charges wants to pay me $15 per hour FT to take care of both of her children toddler and preschooler until she finds a daycare for them. It's too low. And her husband just does whatever she says.

What should I do? I worked for 8 months, taught them a lot of great things, they have good manners and they are fun happy kids.
I would love to stay but Im also a human and I need to pay my bills too.

What the hell? So they can’t afford you anymore and they’re switching to daycare, but in the meantime they’d like to drop you $6/hr? How could they even think to ask you that?

No, the agreed upon payment is what it is. If you can afford to walk away, I would threaten them. Just tell them if they’re not going to keep your rate the same, then you’re out of there effective immediately.

Do not accept. It sucks that they can’t afford you anymore but an agreement is an agreement and your rate should stay the same.

tell her that you can't afford to take a $6/hour pay cut. they must understand if they're having financial problems. we all have bills to pay! i had a family who cut my pay by $4/hour without saying anything and i never sat for them again.

What nerve!!

No, do not work if she is cutting your pay by $6/Hr.
This is just wrong on So. Many. Levels.

I cannot believe her nerve.

Of course you do not accept this huge salary drop! Look for another job now!

It seems like she knows full well you're about to start looking (since you have to!) and is taking advantage of you during this transitional period. Honestly very gross and unethical behavior.

Thanks for the advices! I will tell her if she doesn't pay me what is correct then I will go find another job. I'll miss the kids. *sigh

This basically ends your contract. Assuming you agreed to 2 weeks notice they need to pay you the same rate for 2 weeks then you can both do what you like. If they drop your rate before then I would take them to court and sue them for lost wages.

She always said she would do a contract but never did one and time pass. Even I'm not getting paid on holidays. *sigh

Well if no contract, then look for a job now. Quit with no notice. Your boss did that to you. Of course I'm just a bystander, so better listen to nannies and mom bosses.
