| We're considering a nanny share for childcare and would like to begin it in late August or early September. How long does it typically take folks to pull a nanny share together? Just trying to understand what we're looking at timewise. Thanks in advance |

Depends on if you have a nanny lined up or not. Interviewing a nanny can take time and finding someone you like can be challenging. The timing is good, as many families with elementary school kids keep their nanny for the summer before elementary and then those nannies are available (not saying let go every year but the nanny of someone who was the family nanny from birth- 5 kind of a thing). So Aug / Sept is a more naturally time then say Jan. But, you want to be looking and intervening now.
Finding another family can be super simple - place an ad, meet, talk, agree on terms, start. But if you have specific requirements or unconventional schedules or requests, finding someone else can harder. I don’t see a down side to starting now. Waiting only increased the stress since you have to find people faster. It is not like you are trying to set something up a year in advance. Now seems right. |
| start now. post an ad for both the family and nanny about the hours, rate, responsibilities etc. |
| Not hard, but I'd start soon. That is a popular time of year to start childcare and find a nanny so you should have lots to choose from. |

Let me give you some tips
Pay her well, at least 24 for two children Give her Health insurance Sick days Federal Holidays Lots of vacations If your Nanny is great it is a blessing |

Agree it is important to respect your nanny, and I have an amazing one BUT
We pay $20 per hour ($10 per hour per family) No health insurance 3 sick days Most Federal holidays 2 weeks vacation (one of her choosing, one of ours) Make a list of what you can afford and what works for your family and understand it may take some time to find it. We’ve had our nanny share for 2 years and it is amazing. |
