My husband and I are pricing out and weighing options between au pair and nanny (with the clear understanding that nanny will cost a lot more, but has lots of upside), but i wanted to check in with the experts on what the hourly rate should be for a nanny for our 2 year old twins, 10 hours a day, with some afternoons to include our 5 year old after school. Thanks!
$20-$30/hr.. It may be difficult to find anyone with experience in the DMV near the bottom of that range; most potential nannies with experience will likely quote something in the middle. Overtime, however it is defined in your area (some places just over 40 hours in the week, others over a certain number of hours in the day as well) is at 1.5x the hourly rate.
$25/ per hour. With time an a half paid after 40 hours. Make sure you hire someone with twin experience or who is used to working with 2-3 kids.
We pay our nanny $25/hour (as well as $150/month in gas, $45/month cell-phone stipend, and $200/month IRA) for our twins. If we added an older child, I'd probably bump it up to $30/hour?
Where are you located? That could affect things.
OP here, I live in DC, so I think the numbers mentioned are probably applicable, with the exception of the driving subsidy. There won't be any driving necessarily, and we live near the Metro in Brookland.
But expect to pay metro costs for nanny and kids! |
$20 an hour
What about Atlanta?
$25/hr
