Hi ,
I am working as nanny with a very nice family. My birthday is coming next week. In last two years they gave me Gift card from a retailer that I don’t shop very often. How I can say nicely that give me gift card from store that I like. Thanks |
| You can’t. Thank them nicely for the gift and mean it because they are in now way obligated to get you anything. |
|
Yeah, there’s really nothing you can do in this situation. It’s very sweet that they would think to get you a gift, just kinda odd that they’d give you a gift card for a place they don’t even know you shop at or not.
Odd or not, though, it’s nice of them and you’ll just have to keep accepting the free money and make it work at that store. I’m sure you can find something there you need once a year
|
| No way to say anything. There are gift card swap sites out there where you can exchange for a store you do shop at. |
| Start talking about a favorite store. |
No! Absolutely say nothing! The receiver of a gift NEVER gets to dictate where the gift came from. Smile and be happy, OP. |
| think there are places online you can swap out gift cards |
|
Op here I didn’t know I could swap the gift card.
Thanks |

There is absolutely no way to let the family know you prefer a gift card to another store w/our offending the family.
Try mentioning how you are a Target girl vs. a Walmart girl or how much you just LOVE Chick-Fil-A, etc. if you want but overall be grateful that you received something. If I receive a gift card that I don’t want, I usually just give it to one of my kids or a dear friend. |
