| They scheduled their vacations to coincide with mine. So much for getting extra time off. |
| Um yeah. We do this too. I don’t have enough time off to have the nanny take vacation and me be home and then take vacation with my family too. You get the time off that’s in your contract and maybe an extra day here or there if we decide to do a long weekend etc. |
| They don't owe you that. Some people only get two weeks of vacation. |
|
Yes, this is how it usually happens. I swear some nannies act so entitled. How much time off do you think the above Average American family gets? Even though we are in corporate positions, we still only get 3-6 weeks a year. I do not have the luxury to give you double the time off.
Get over yourself. You’d get way less vacation (and way less money) working at a child Center, etc. |
3-6 weeks a year! I get two weeks a year. |
You obviously need more vacation if your job makes you this miserable. |
|
Eh, they don’t owe you any extra time outside your vacation time. They can schedule their vacation when they’d like, would you want them to dictate when you can vacation?
You are coming across as entitled. But to the PP calling nannies entitled for wanting more than a week. You get 3-6 and you think we deserve half of that? We also have families and need downtime. Especially considering our hours are usually longer. |
| I usually take mine when the family takes theirs. |
|
Seems like a good idea OP. I have to use vacation time when our nanny is on vacation so why on earth wouldn't I plan something fun for us also if it's a long enough duration?
Sorry it doesn't mean you get to game the system but that's life. |
| We always scheduled our vacations around the nanny's. We only get two weeks off a year, and that's what our nanny gets too, so it would never work otherwise. I think that's pretty normal. |
| Find out when they take their vacation and change your plans |
Presumably OP has already put in a vacation request, and that's why the family made plans to cover that time. Our contract required 30 days' notice for vacation time, precisely so that we *could* make plans to either take the time off ourselves or make alternate childcare arrangements. If she then decides not to go on vacation after all, she's out of luck. |
+1. I am as generous as I can be with my nanny for vacations, but I have limited PTO and grandparent time to draw on. If my nanny started playing tricks to try to game the system, i would lose a lot of trust and probably not be as generous on PTO or other matters, or even look for alternate childcare arrangements. |
Yep. Pp is probably ugly anyway. On the inside and outside. |
How does being ugly on the outside have ANYTHING to do with this topic? |
