Do you tell your nanny not to come in during a weather emergency like today's wind? Do you give a choice about whether to come in and if nanny chooses not to come in do you charge leave?
|
| I told my nanny not to come in. My DH is off, but I have to work still. If we both had to work and were both going in, I would need her to come. I will still pay her for today. If I asked her to come and she did not, she would have to take leave. |
I had the option to come in or stay home. If I would have stayed home, I could use PTO or take unpaid leave. I would have preferred to stay home (with the rest of the world ) but my employers had to work- all 4 and they really needed me to come in, so, I decided to be a team player. I normally drive to work but when I don’t feel safe to do so the pay for my Uber (to the metro) and train ride to the nearest station located near them, which is only a few minute walk to their house- hopefully I don’t blow away! Be safe everyone!

| In any weather emergency, I offer our nanny the option of staying home and always pay her for the day. I trust our nanny to make the best and safest decision for herself. |
good policy |
better policy |
| I called and said I didn't feel safe coming in. Mb asked me to come in late I said I would if the weather got better ( I assumed it would) mean 1 hour later she told me to take the day off |
| This is why I prefer to live-in! |
Probably why the employers prefer a live-in. |
| It's in my contract, if we have a weather emergencies I don't come in. If government is closed, I stay home. |
|
Government closes because there are tens of thousands of people commuting over high bridges, frozen rails, on trains, in van, buses, etc. If you were driving a short distance on a day like yesterday, it would have been 100% fine.
I worked (my building closed but i went in to grab some stuff and plenty of people were there), and my nanny worked. |
+2 I trust my children's nanny with their lives so I certainly trust her to judge when she should or shouldn't drive in during a weather emergency. |
Yep, one of the many reasons
|
| Our nanny has stayed home on some snow days, but as long as it's safe to drive, she'll come in (since my husband and I don't get those days off). If she doesn't come in then she still gets paid. It's not her fault the weather was bad. I don't get the people who don't treat their nannies like real employees. I suppose there might be nannies whose husbands make so much the nanny's salary is irrelevant, but our nanny lives off her salary, so she gets a set salary year round (plus additional overtime sometimes). How would you like it if your employer docked your pay because you didn't come to work one day?!? |
If your work doesn't close, don't you have to take leave (vacation) or time off without pay? Our weather policy is to get a day off with pay when we (or at least one of us) get the day off with pay. Makes no sense for me to have to charge a vacation day so the nanny can get another day off with pay. |
