"Professional couple seeking a caring, responsible and experienced Live-in Nanny/ Housekeeper to help with the smooth running of the household. We have three young children - 22 months, 5 years and 8 years old.

We are looking for the right fit with experience caring for infants, toddlers and young children as a Nanny or Au Pair. The ideal individual must love children, be mature, reliable, trustworthy, and great communicator. A background in early childhood education is a plus. In addition to childcare, we are looking for someone to help with minimal housekeeping duties.

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

Helping with meal selection and/or occasional prep-work for cooking
Putting the children down for naps
Changing diapers and clothing, as well as washing and drying baby clothes as required
Getting children prepared for bedtime
Playing with the children and taking the toddler for walks
Creating a learning environment for the all the children
Stimulating the development of the toddler through appropriate play
Cleaning and general housekeeping

Qualifications of the Nanny/Housekeeper:

Minimum of 2 References
Infant and child CPR certified
Background check

Documentation verification for the following:

Police report
Credit report
Driving record
Proof of Insurance
Medical History

The following are requirements:

Non-Disclosure Agreement
Personality screening

Please expect to stay employed with us for approximately 6-9 months, then we'll review options for extension."

****Who would want to work for this family?? They are asking for so much to only stay employed for 6months. Even President Trump didn't even take a personality screening. But of course they left out the pay.

Well the question is, overall, how long are you looking to employ for this position. They could want someone for 5 years but to ensure it’s a great fit, let’s start out with 6 months. This also prevents the nanny or Au pair from leaving them “high and dry” before then. With one of my positions, I started with 6 months, and if both parties agreed we would extend another 6 months, and so on. However, I didn’t have as many responsibilities but I did have 3 children ranging from infant to preschool. The way this ad is put out, I honestly wouldn’t even apply to this family. They seem like they would be over the top, stressful parents and yes, I got all of that from the ad.

I agree that the time isn’t what made me think I would pass too, although I would instead ask for a three month trial and to renew/renegotiate around the yearly afterwards. They are advertising for a live-in nanny/housekeeper, but aren’t specifying days, let alone hours. Pay is never mentioned. Background check is fine, credit report, medical history and insurance are none of their business. NDA is normal, personality screening is weird. At one point it says light housekeeping, later it says cleaning and general housekeeping, leading me to think they don’t know what they need/want, will change the job description and/or will have different expectations coming from each parent.

Yes! Everything after background check had me like “no!” However, I do understand why a credit check may be required, if they’re a wealthy family. I would definitely be inquiring on why you need to know my medical history, insurance etc. But even still, I am not sharing my medical history outside of proof I’ve had a t-dap shot and the flu shot. My insurance information? What? Why!? I didn’t even disclose half this information when going through my security clearance (for a previous job). I didn’t pay attention to them not mentioning the hours/days but I guess one can inquire before they move forward to the interview process. Whoever applies for this job, definitely needs to ask questions and everything they discuss needs to be in the contract, and read over thoroughly!

I understand wanting to know if a nanny candidate has medical insurance. A medical crisis in the home would be really hard for everyone, if the nanny did not have insurance.

Then admin the guise of offering it as a benefit. “We’re prepared to either pay a portion of an existing policy or put x amount towards a new policy. We will remit the check directly to your insurance so that the amount is not taxed. Do you already have a policy?” Be prepared to follow through. If you don’t want to offer that benefit, it isn’t your business.

The family should be supplying health insurance or at least a stipend.

In other words, you may be expected to scrub all five toilets in the home.
