Gift for new nanny RSS feed

Our nanny has been with us about a month. We love her and plan to give her a nice Christmas bonus, but I'd also like to give her a little token gift from my son, who is 2. Of course, only a month in and I don't really know her hobbies, etc. yet. Any ideas for a small, generic, and yet thoughtful gift to accompany a cash bonus?

A bath and body works basket? Often appreciated

What kind of cash bonus after only 1 month?

Nothing, OP. Maybe. Gift card. I started on job part time in November and moved to full time in January. They gave me a $10 gift card to Starbucks (I had no idea gift cards could be for so little) and it should have been a harbinger of how awful and cheap they turned out to be. My next ) now current) employers had me start full time on Dec 5th and they gave me $100 gift card to Amazon. I have been with them ever since and I adore them! They are generous with compliments, respectful and grateful-- it is the best nanny job I have ever had.

Set the tone, OP. Begin as you mean to continue.

Get her some things from Lush or if you know she's a Starbucks person maybe a gift card!! I'm a late 20s nanny and my employers gave me lush gifts for my birthday. It was so sweet.

Your post makes NO sense.

Synopsis: no cash. $100 gift card.

OP here. Thanks for the suggestions! We're going to give her 1 week cash bonus. She's really great.

One week is very generous and will be appreciated.
I agree with the PP who said "Set the tone, OP. Begin as you mean to continue."

Happy holidays!

I started two one day a week jobs last October and one gave me $50 cash ($100 this year) and the other gave me $50 gift card plus slippers I leave at their house. Both were thoughtful and unexpected after a short tenure.

Let the kid color a picture and put a note on it.

This! No bath and body or lush unless you specifically know she likes them!

If you do a weeks pay now for a month of anniversary, she will be expecting a month's pay for next Christmas. Also, now is the honeymoon period. Everything looks good. Next year, things will look different. If you have money to burn, use it on a second helper nanny. Giving her a week's of money now is worse than burning it, sadly. I speak after 10 years of experience with nannies. She thinks she's great and will become complacent.

I am at my job for almost a year and I didn't even get a week bonus. Agreed with other PP's; set the tone or you'll be sorry.

A gift card or some cash bonus would be appreciated and nice. I was in the same situation last year; started PT in November and was surprised to receive a small lip balm set and a $100 cash. I didn't expect that but it was very sweet of NF. Gifts from the kiddo can be a coffee mug with a picture, cute picture frame, etc... The gesture counts more than the sum of the gift
