Make saving two months worth of expenses a priority. Bank any bonus. This is your "F U money".
Have your resume updated and your references current. Sign up with the best agencies in your area now. Tell them that you are currently happy and employed but thinking about the future. Nannies, we all should be able to walk at a moments notice. I am a nanny extremely happy in my current position but after reading a few threads on this forum I am making this my New Years resolution. Be ready to walk. |
| Excellent advice! |
| Two months ? I thought 9 months was the suggested standard savings for everyone |
Not for a good nanny who can be in another position easily within a month. The longer banked amount are for less secure employment fields. |
Wow. That is incredibly ignorant and short-sighted. Yes, I could find a new job quickly if I were let go, but not if, say, I was in a car accident and needed to be in a wheelchair for a few months. Nannying is a low-paid, physically demanding job. We need all the savings we can manage! |
OP is just talking about "FU Money", PP. Calm down. Yes, Dear, save as much as you possibly can for medical emergencies and catastrophes. But for basic FU money - two months for a nanny is sufficient. |
| Nannies and other hourly paid employees do not make enough money to have 9 months salary saved. Saving even tho months I would be difficult. |
Actually I do and I did. I am a nanny and I have enough saved to walk away from any job. I made it a priority. I do need to update my resume, however, so this is a good reminder for me. |
No, she specifically states that more than two months is unneccessary. |
