Tail-end of bronchitis - should I work? RSS feed

Anonymous
I am a nanny to a 23 month old who has ballet class tomorrow (where the parents/nannies participate). Dr. says I am not contagious but I am still having some violent coughing episodes. I stayed home today but I don't think it is helping so I'd like to go to work tomorrow. I am nervous about having a coughing fit during my charge's dance class but otherwise think I will be fine.

Should I work or not? Employer is great and this is my first illness/sick day in nearly two years.

Thanks.

I think you should not forego income b/c some people might give you the side-eye for a lingering cough.

If it makes you feel better, tell them when you have a coughing fit, "so sorry! I promise it's not contagious -- my airway is just still compromised." Or something like that.

I think you could work at this stage. Put some hot tea and honey in a thermos, load up on cough syrup and drops, and you'll probably be ok.

OP likely has sick days covered and isn't missing pay. OP, bring hot tea, cough drop, and anything else that may help. If you start coughing, I would definitely say that you are at he tail end of an illness and your doctor has confirmed that you are no longer contagious.

Or you could propose that your MB take the child to class as to not upset the other parents.

I would stay home for another day, OP. No need to freak out the ballet parents at the start of cold and flu season!

+1 Relax, OP. Get better.

I got the impression OP was feeling ok, didn't want to use any more sick days, and was just worrying about being seen as that person who spreads germs everywhere.

If she doesn't feel up to going in, she should call out.

OP here. I was worried about freaking out the ballet mothers with my bark so I decided to take another sick day. Yes, I am paid for sick days and this is now only my second one. Thanks for the advice, All!
