Cost for three kids in outer Silver Spring?

Hi, all,

I know the board hates these types of questions, but I need information. We are considering a nanny in the following scenario: six month old baby, home full time. Middle child is 3.5 and in preschool 3 mornings a week. Oldest is in K and home from 3:30-5:30. Hours would be from 8:30-5:30 (so, 45 hours a week). We could guarantee hours (she'd probably only work about 43 hours a week) and be generous with PTO/holidays (all federal holidays plus day after Thanksgiving; entire week between Christmas and New Year's; 3 weeks of PTO, one at nanny's choice). We need someone who drives, speaks English, is legal to work, has experience but not necessarily a degree. We'd pay over the table. Housekeeping would basically be to just keep the house tidied during the day and wash bottle parts (no kids' laundry or anything).

What should we expect to pay? DH doesn't make much, so we're not going to be able to pay the nanny more than he takes home.

for experience... the least would be 15.00 per hour (22.50 OT)

But offer 18.00 (27.00 OT)

if you cannot afford that maybe DH could SAH.

In Silver Spring you could pay $20 an hour for that. Assuming your Nanny will be in charge of the older kids for days off school, early release days, sick days, Winter break, summer etc, you need to factor that in.

We'd be home most of those days. DH is a teacher, and I have a super flexible job, so those kinds of thing would be really limited (not summer, wither break, spring break, or many sick days). But some of the early release days (and I know there can be a lot!), the Ker would be home, so that's fair to point out.

I have a friend who pays $20 on Arlington for a terrific nanny the exact same situation, but especially for far out Silver Spring you could pay less. Maybe $18???

I work in silver spring, I'd never agree to $18 for this kind of situation.
I made that with 2 kids, similar situation. Oldest nk was in school all day. Stayed with a newborn all day 45 hrs a week.

$18/hr for three kids! More like $28/hr.

I do a nanny share in Silver Spring I get paid $24 for two children. One of the days I only have one child I get $20. Why would any nanny take $18-$20 for three children.. If so that person will not stay with you long. Unless you want to pay under the table.

I wouldn't go by this board. Interview some nannies in the area. We did not find people looking for $22-28/hr and we're in Silver Spring too
