Appropriate gift or bonus for an amazing part-time nanny... RSS feed

... who will be leaving us for purely scheduling reasons. She has been with us for over two years and we love her dearly. She will stay in our lives but not on a regular basis and I certainly want to encourage her to come and see DD as much as possible or my daughter's heart would be broken.

What would be an appropriate parting gift?

$100. cash in a card and a glowing reference letter?
A photo of her with your child would be nice.

OP here and thank you. However we give two weeks pay for an end of the year bonus as well as birthday gifts. We are very, very fortunate in our financial situation and $100 gift card isn't enough in our circumstance.

Yes, of course, I will give her a glowing letter of recommendation.

Certainly in your situation, I would give her her usual year end bonus as a parting gift. And if you want her to remain in your child's life for your child's sake - treat her very, very well in terms of a meaningful good-bye gift (engraved frame with a photo of she and your child, a piece of jewelry, or something you know she has wanted but can't afford).

At least give her the year end bonus as a cash gift and a small token. You sound like a great employer, OP.

don't give me a gift. bonuses are where its at. nothing worse than receiving something you know they spent $50 on that you don't really like when it couldve gone towards the car note or bought some groceries.

Give her a visa gift card and a nice car with a personal note inside. I had a family give me a small make up pouch (vera bradly) full of cash for a bonus and a locket with the kids pictures inside.
