I am out and about with my 20 month old charge all the time. It occurred to me yesterday (when someone nearly ran into me at an intersection) that if I was killed or rendered unconscious, no one would know who my charge belonged to. All my phone numbers are on my locked iphone and, being single, if the police went to my address no one is there to tell them who the toddler in my care is.
Do you carry a card for your charge? Something like "The child in my care is Larla Smith and her parents' phone numbers are _________" Is there a better way short of an ID bracelet for my charge (which she would loathe and pull at). Thanks! |
| I have their insurance cards in their pack back. Just have the parents print you up something that you could keep in your wallet or somewhere. But, God forbid anything happened to you or anyone caring for someone else's child, if you're an employee and are paid legally, they'll be able to identify your employers and who the child(ren) belong to. |

In my medical information on my phone, I have the access code to my contacts and the parents' names.
I have two charges (different families) and think I might start carrying special ID cards for each of them. Yes, of course, I am employed legally but my little charges would be traumatized before the cops got around to checking employment records and my one little charge is only 1.5. Laminating a contact card an keeping it on me isn't a bad idea at all. |
| Meh.... the police would keep the kiddos safe.... and my employers would eventually call the cops if I disappeared with the kids. |
| Tag ur it is a company I have used. It makes id cards for car seats, strollers, etc. For the just in case events |
Not good enough for me. Sorry. I want my charges to be with their parents as soon as humanly possible. I am going to look into and get ID tags. |
Thank you! |
| Put charges' parents' contact info into your "emergency contacts" on your phone. These can be accessed without unlocking phone. |

My lock screen includes a photo of my charges and contact info for their parents. In my diaper bag I keep the medical release form their parents signed, which has contact info for both parents and all 4 grandparents. It is in a ziploc bag clearly labeled "CHILD EMERGENCY INFO." Their carseats have a little slot for an emergency card which is also filled out.

| 5:50 here: if I am taking them to be crowded public place, I also use safety tats, which are temporary tattoos with their parents and my phone number on them, so in an emergency the parents would be notified even if they found the child but not me. |
Excellent suggestions, PP! |

Some very good and caring nannies on this thread! This is something that our nanny thought about and something that never occurred to me.
Than you, Nannies!!! |
| My emergency numbers are clearly listed in my phone, ICE family and ICE child's parent. My charges won't wear identification, but I wear an alert tag with the children's names, parents' names and phone numbers. And I only drive the family car, which has their information in the glovebox. |
| I have never ever thought about this, but I agree it is something that is very important & that I should look into doing. |
