Wow, just finished a reference check for my previous nanny. Mom asked me over twenty questions. Here are some of the questions: what school does your children attend? What is the teacher name? Do your children have a different last name? Never heard of you. Why do you have a 301 number, if you live in Vienna VA. It was like she wanted to see if I was telling the truth. I offered to meet her at the park with my children. I asked her what park? She said she would rather come to my home and pick up a refencene letter. At that point I was like oh no. I sent my previous nanny a message, and told her if she needed any more proof that she worked for me show her your pay stub and emails for the past six years.

I can't figure out if you're a nanny or a parent looking to hire a nanny, or what.

OP here: I'm a parent, I was providing a refencene for my previous nanny.

Ahh, I see. What the hell would it matter who your kids' teachers were? That's an irrelevant question in relation to what kind of job your nanny did.

Wow that's crazy.. just last month, I brought a new phone and they asked me did I want a 703, 301, 202 number. So what if you had a 703 number does that mean you was telling the truth??

I guess she knows everyone in her area. What a joke. Plus as a nanny I wouldn't want to work with her. She would question my every move.

Geez, it sounds to me like she was performing a background check on you....Just to make sure you were a real reference vs. one Nanny made up.

While I would appreciate the concern + all, this woman was way out of line.

Expecting to come over to your home??!
Asking who your children's teacher is....??!

She is overstepping her boundaries big time.

She is so rude.. your old nanny shouldn't even take the job.

Please tell your former nanny about this woman.

My former employer told me that a potential MB was basically disrespectful of nannies in general on the phone and my former MB said the woman was horrid. I took her advice and turned down the job and I am so glad I did. My current employer, with my former employers blessing, is the best job I have ever had. I am so grateful to my former MB for being honest with me.

She is a mess, call you previous nanny right away. Tell her what happened and not to give your information out. This lady may show up at your door. At this point, why would you want to work for a family, like that.

Well, it is not uncommon for nannies to provide fake references, where their friend pretends to have employed her. So trying to trip you up on basic kid stuff might have worked.

Please don't call those people nannies. They aren't.

Yes, nannies are fired all the time. They just "skip" those families as references. And when asked what they did during that time, they often provide a fake reference or that they 'lost it.'
