Do all Nanny Employers think they are fair and easy to work for?

Can anyone admit that maybe, as an employer of a nanny, that he/she isn't always fair or a good employer?

I am fair.

However, that probably means that on occasion I say "no" to a nanny request or ask her to try to do something differently. I have no idea if she finds those things fair.

As for "easy to work with?" Probably not. I am a WAHM, so I'm around a lot, and there's a second nanny/housekeeper (there are 4 children), so I do a lot of schedule-managing.

But I pay well, provide health and dental insurance, let her go home early a lot, and she gets almost 30 days a year off paid, not including the 2-3 weeks vacation we take. We're finishing up year 3. So I think she's more interested in a good job than an easy one.

I am a good one. I pay my nanny well, care for her like I do my family and buy her gifts if she does me a favor. We don't give her holiday pay or any other benefits but she is only part time.

I felt that I was fair. Our DC's former nanny, who still sees DC every week and FaceTimes with him a couple evenings a week, would undoubtedly tell you differently. C'est la vie... my child loves her.

It's sweet that your kid keeps in touch with her, even though she doesn't work for you anymore and you have your differences. Good for you, and good for the nanny -- what a great experience for the kid.

I'm extremely generous because I know I'm such a trainwreck to work for. Disorganized, messy, bad at scheduling.

I think I am fair. I ask the nanny to do some annoying things- wait at the house for maintenance people, run errands on occasion, spend time with visiting family members- but I also have no problems with her running her own errands, spending time with her own family members when they are visiting, and generally doing whatever she wants with DC during the day. I trust her judgment and priorities so I don't micromanage.

What does this even mean? What would be "unfair" in your estimation? Anything the nanny didn't like about her job? Or something in particular.

I'm sure over the three years our nanny has worked for us, I've said something in a way that might have upset her or hurt her feelings, but that's because I'm a human being and sometimes we don't get tone or wording exactly right, not because I'm a bad employer.
