Birthday gift for the world's best nanny RSS feed

Our nanny is older and established so I am at a loss as to how to honor her birthday. She mentioned her favorite cake once and I know she likes peach colored roses. I plan to write her a card telling her how much we all love her and how grateful we are to have her in our lives.

Should I include a gift card or a day off too? Or are the flowers and cake (for her to take home - it's her favorite and not easy to find) be enough?

Include it all. You can never show your nanny enough love and care.

Nanny here.

My opinion on birthdays is that they are important to kids. Grownups, not so much. Unless it is a milestone birthday like age 20, 21, 30, 40, 50, etc.

I think a card sounds awesome. A card and a cake even more awesome. Might as well do candles and sing the song and eat some at your house since the kids will want all that fanfare. Nanny can take the rest of the cake home.

I am 58. I was embarrassed last year when my MB gave me a bonus check for my birthday, and relieved this year when she didn't bother. Two years from now when I hit 60, if my employers want to go all out for my birthday, that sounds great.

Maybe that is just me though.

It is nice to be thought of, just don't go bankrupt expressing the sentiment.

That sounds great OP. Maybe have the kids make drawings/write cards too?

My favorite gift was a $150 gift card to a spa I had mentioned liking. You can do a gift card or day off (I'm sure either would be appreciated) and the flowers. If you do that cake, have it at your house with the kids and send the leftovers home. I wouldn't want an entire cake hanging around my kitchen begging to be eaten!

Have the flowers delivered to her house. Traveling with fresh flowers is always a mess and opening the door to a flower delivery is such a wonderful surprise.

I don't always like a huge fuss either but it is nice to have a birthday acknowledged.
