| I was supposed to start a new nanny job today, but woke up in the middle of the night last night vomiting. I feel terrible, like this family thinks I'm unreliable but I can't help it. I let them know I wouldn't be able to come in and they said it was fine but deep down I feel like they're looking for my replacement. Ugh. MBs, have you ever had this happen, or what would you do in this situation? Should I start looking for a new job? |
| Hopefully this was just nerves or a short bug and you'll be back to yourself and won't need another sick day until at least December. Shit happens. |
| Honestly I would keep looking just in case. I took a sick day yesterday for the same reason up all night vomiting. It was my first sick day with this family , I have worked for 2 years. Mb was clearly upset with me today and it seemed like she didn't blieve me. To say my feelings are hurt is an understatement. I felt horrible missing work. For her to question my integrity is really upsetting and this is my boss of 2 years. |

Look it happens - people get sick... That said, keep looking for a new job. It was just bad luck that you got sick but you are officially a flake in your employer's eyes. Unfair - but how life is.
Sorry, OP. |
Holy crap, where do you find people like this? Two years and they get upset with one sick day? People get sick, you deserve a sick day. |

I would still give you a chance since I am wise enough to understand Murphy's Law.
But it would take me slightly longer to establish reliability w/you. Unfair, but the raw truth. |
