Is it possible to find a part time job in the summer that extends to Afterschool care during the school year? Something long term?
I'm open to before care if they're close enough to me. I've looked on care and haven't found anything interesting. Thanks in advance |

Wow! You should have people lined up around the block.
Post your own profile on Care -- I bet you get a lot of hits. Otherwise, see if you can advertise on neighborhood list servs, and if you're in the DMV, post an ad here. |
| Also notice boards places where kids go, like Whole Foods -- make up a flyer. |
| Thanks pps! |
| Sittercity.com. |
| There is a site called DCUM. I have found a couple of great jobs over the years there. |
| I have never found a job that was a good fit for me on dcum. Thanks for playing |
| I would assume the schools would not let you post there, but see if there are places around the school that people tend to go when it lets out that might have a bulletin board. |
That's a great idea o hadn't considered. Thank you |

I wouldn't recommend Care.com.
I live in San Diego and a woman who advertised on Care.com has been held along with her boyfriend for molesting two seven year olds and filming it. Just proves that any + every one w/Internet access can create a free profile on there and label themselves anything they want to. In this case, Professional Nanny. Childcare websites are a fraud and only succeed in money grabbing. Parents can do so much better on their own. |

| That's scary. I'm actually from Carlsbad |
Ummm ... anyone on any forum in any place can lie. Where would you have nannies advertise that's more reliable? I know you'll say "go through an agency," but the agency just does what any parent ought to do if they hire someone: checks references and runs background checks. The agencies find people on Care, listservs, and through ads themselves. |
The agencies also have experience screening nannies and know what a good one looks like. A lot of parents get hung up on stupid crap like wanting someone a certain age, not too pretty, or specifically pretty. They act like they're looking for an accessory not a childcare provider. |
