Being told you are part of the family....

How do you feel when MB/DB say that?
DB said it to me the other morning and MB agreed. I don't believe it though. I am not very close to either of them on a personal level. MB in particular can be very difficult in a lot of ways. I know they are both very pleased with how I do my job but they don't care for me like family, nor do I feel like I am part of theirs.
Seems a strange thing to say really in my case, although I know other nannies who truly do have a very close, family like relationship with their MB's/DB's.

I don't say that to my children's nanny. They are my employee. One I am very grateful for, and care about, but still, my employee. I don't have to pay family members to watch the kids.

Honestly OP, just say "Awww, thank you!" and carry on doing a good job. Know they could still fire you tomorrow.

This. I say thank you for a lot of things and giv enqnny time off and bonuses. She is great and loves the baby and I ask about her family etc.

I feel the same. Mb went out of her way to tell me she told oldest nk I wasn't family, but a "very good friend"

That's what goes through my mind. They ssy I am like family but yes, they could fire me tomorrow.

If they truly consider you "family," would they bail you out of jail at 3AM??

Some say that just because they want to keep on having you do their chores and take care of the crap.
They usually don't mean it deep inside.

It's BS. You are no more family to them than the mailman. They are working up to job creep or not giving you a raise. Always, but ALWAYS, keep the relationship professional. Familiarity breeds contempt.

They can get ticked off about any little thing and fire you tomorrow. FWIW, I am not a nanny.

I would, unless you viciously assaulted someone or abused a child. That's where I draw the line.

If your family was watching your child 40-50 hrs a week, doing your laundry every week you would. Or you'd be a crappy person
