Any luck with the sleep wave? RSS feed

I'm reading a new sleep book that recommends a solid bedtime routine, putting him in the crib awake and saying a "goodnight I love you, see you in the morning"-like script; then leaving. You come back every 5 minutes and say the same script then leave over and over for as long as it takes. My LO is 9 months, and let's just say it's time. Has anyone tried this method (some folks call it the sleep wave)? Experiences?

This should be posted in the main forum, general parenting discussion.

But, I will say that the "returning every 5 minutes" thing never worked for me.

Nope - but the cry it out method works in 3 days. Painful but true.

Returning every five minutes is a bit much.

I would recommend every 10 minutes at that age & one minute check-ins w/zero communication.

That's basically Ferber, great for some, horrible for others. Many prefer straight cio or the sleep shuffle. Try the parenting forum.

You will know pretty quickly whether this will work for your kid because they will either be comforted by your presence each time and it will help them to calm down and sleep or they will be pissed off every time you come in and don't pick them up/rock them/nurse them/whatever they are used to. If the latter, just do CIO. It will be painful but fast and will ultimately be a lot less crying than anything else.
