We are thinking of getting a nanny once our second child is born. Our daughter is currently in an in-home daycare but is at capacity for spots when we need one for second baby so the route we are looking at is hiring a nanny and sending our child to half day preschool 2-3x a week. We decided au/pair isn't going to work for us.
We are new to the nanny hiring process so I apologize for any dumb questions. I have the following questions: 1. Pros and cons of hiring a nanny with second kid 2. what is going rate for nanny in the Alexandria area (22307) for 2 kids, one kid going to part time preschool for about 32 hours a week? And have nanny drop off and pick up child from school. 3. Do you have to pay for nanny's health insurance? How does that work if you do? Cost? 4. What are the standard benefits offered to nannies? 5. Overall average cost? Seems like though may be about on par with a newborn and toddler in daycare, unless I'm looking at the care.com nanny calculator wrong... 6. Standard/reasonable responsibilities to ask nanny to do? (Ex laundry for kids, cook meals, take them to activities play dates, light housekeeping with regard to kids, etc) Thanks! |
Nanny.com calculator tends to underestimate costs both in terms of average hourly rate, and because it leaves out the additional 12% or so you'll need to cover taxes, insurance, and other costs like petty cash, mileage or nanny car, and bonuses.

I meant to say that for full time nanny care for two children, unless you are in the most expensive daycares, nanny care will still be more expensive. However, the convenience factor is really nice. |
