I am in excruciating pain. Doctors want me to take time off work but I do not want to disappointment my nanny family. Nannies WWYD? MBs would you fire your nanny for needing time off? I have already pushed myself too far this week I feel

| If you are in pain then you take off. |

Get a doctor's note and send a copy (just take a photo) to your nanny family. For many NFs, it's not really an issue to cover an extra week of sick leave, but we do get suspicious occasionally. If I saw a doctor's note, it would make me feel better and I would want my kid's nanny to stay home and recover.
If of course it kept happening repeatedly, then I think some kind of disability leave would be necessary and we'd need to find a replacement. |
Too bad your employer can't find a replacement for you when you take too much time off as in maternity leave, breaks, even if non paid, for pumping, and child care problems. Treat your nanny as your employer treats you. |
This seems quite fair. |
I need a doctor's note for any absence over three days, so indeed what I suggested is the same treatment I have. I also pay into a disability policy as does my employer, which is why I brought that up. |

MB here. That's your knee right? So are you getting surgery to get it repaired? If you gave me a timetable and you were our beloved nanny of five years, then I'd call my MIL and ask if she could fly in and stay with us for a month or however long you needed.
If you were an "eh, she's okay" nanny then we'd probably give you two weeks severance, make sure you had health insurance through your surgery & recovery and find someone else. |

Sorry I have Z-E-R-O idea what you tore, but if it happened suddenly then your employers will need to find some temporary childcare to cover your absence.
They should already have a back-up plan in place for situations such as this. Every family should have a Plan B. established when hiring a Nanny since life happens. Plain & simple. Rest up OP + try to concentrate on making a full recovery. |
