Our new nanny has been with us for two weeks (one week part-time, one week full-time). It's not a fit. She hasn't done anything egregious, she's just not gelling with our family. What sort of notice is fair in this situation? We don't have a contract. She didn't give up full-time work to start with us, just part-time that I think she can get back easily. |
Only 2 weeks? Personally think you need to give it a bit longer. Why have you come to this decision so soon! |
What does that even mean "not a fit" but hasn't done anything egregious. Makes no sense. |
Are there distinct things she can do to improve? If so, I think you should have a "How's It Going?" talk with her and tell her what those things are.
If there's no hope, then I'd just hand her any pay owed and tell her it's not working out. |
Sometimes you just "know."
I am a Nanny & have realized that I am just not compatible w/a certain family sometimes. Let your Nanny know next time you see her that it just isn't the right fit. And that she has done nothing specifically wrong. Then let her go. Do you already have another Nanny lined up to take her place? |
I would give her a couple of days of severance to serve as the notice. |
This. I would do it on a friday afternoon and if you can afford it, give as much at one week of severance. But also, in your next contract, have a one month trial period for exactly this eventuality. Good for you for making the decision quickly. We hired a nanny a few months ago and have really been trying to make it work but in retrospect we just shouldn't have hired her. It gets much harder to manage (on all sides) the longer it goes on. |
A week severance is absurd in my opinion. |
I would give her 2 weeks notice (like you would expect an employee to give). Severance is absolutely absurd in this situation. |
How much notice would you expect if the nanny was unhappy after two weeks? What ever notice you would want is the amount of severance you need to give her. Let's be fair here, MBs. |
Exactly. |
Experienced nanny have to do the best the first day of her job. Am a nanny. |
