Nanny Tax Question RSS feed

I work in VA for a family that started out paying me "under the table" until about 6 months ago. Now that I am responsible for filing my taxes I am so confused about what I am responsible for under the Nanny Tax. They do not withhold anything in my paychecks. I recently asked for my W-2 and it includes the amount withheld fo Federal Income Tax, Social Security Tax, and Medicare Tax; from what I have read I am getting the impression that my employer is responsible for paying a portion of this?

I'm lost on this. If they didn't withhold anything then those numbers for federal income tax, social security and Medicare should say zero. That is supposed to reflect withholding. They are then also responsible for social security and Medicare too but that doesn't show on your W-2.

Okay, it sounds like your take home stayed the same, but they started saying they were withholding? Effectively, you just got a substantial raise. Do your taxes, it should be fine for you. If they didn't submit the withholding or the employer match, that will be on them.

At least they're not forcing a 1099 on you like my old employers.
