I'm having a terrible time finding an after school sitter for my kids. How do I word the employment ad to better attract potential sitters? |
Be as specific as you can
The hours you need, will they need to drive, how old your kids are, any housework involved or just supervision of snack/homework type stuff and what you are willing to pay. |
I doubt it's the wording of your ad that is causing you to have a tough time finding the sitter.
Those are hard hours to fill, period. The best way to find someone is to offer a ridiculously high pay. |
This is how to word it " full time pay for working part time hours". |
If you are in an area where HS kids get released before Elem school kids look for a HS sitter. |
Hard to find a HSer that doesn't have after school sports, clubs, jobs, or other interests. |
#1 biggest tip if you are looking on a website like care.com or something is include a picture. When you search for a sitter everyone has a picture and but for some reason the parents don't ever feel a need to put a picture when offering a job. Your job won't stand out with the generic icon because we nannies and sitters don't have time to click through to every ad and read it.
You have 3 chances: 1) photo 2) meaningful title - don't write "Seeking loving nanny for kids" that's just dumb. Write something like "3-7pm M-F care for 4&6 year old" 3) Put your most important point in the first sentence of the body because we can see that before clicking through. So skip the unnecessary email crap like "Hi potential nannies, " or "Thank you for reading our ad" |
Make sure you aren't asking too much for what the pay entails. I get put off by after school jobs which ask nannies to cook for the whole family, iron, tidy, do homework with kids/take them to park, all expected in the space of 3-4 hours and not reflected in the pay.
Also, just a suggestion but have you tried asking people at gym daycares if they can work as your after school nanny? Some of them only work mornings and may be looking for additional work. I do that job and after school nannying is a second job for me. |
