We were informed that our past nanny had lost her job last month. We had let her go because my husband had lost his job. She filed for Unemployment at the end of December and we were notified since we had employed her in last 18 months. Will we have to pay a percent of her unemployment since she had listed us as employers in last 18 months.

What did they say about you having to pay a percentage of her unemployment benefimy understanding is that unemployment is unemployment insurance that we paid the premium for when we employed. I have never heard of any past employer being asked to pay out of pocket for the unemployment of a past employee.

I am asking if we will have to pay a percent. We are not sure if we will.

Unemployment is insurance. No, of course you will not be asked to pay anything. You paid into her unemployment insurance when she worked for you. Unless you paid her under the table in which case you are totally screwed.

I worked a temp job a few years ago. It was a Nanny position and was only for 3 months. I couldnt find another job straight away so filed for unemployment. (I should add I was 39 and have worked ever since becoming an adult and have never claimed for any help)
I didnt realise it was based of your last job. Anyway, the unemployement office told me that I was eligible and it wasnt my fault the job ended, even though I told them that I knew it was temp. So i got the unemployment for about 2 months I think.
