I am working both today and tomorrow (Christmas). I don't mind, actually...
Anyone else? |
| That's insane... |
| I am not a huge fan of Christmas but you would have to pay me an insane amount of money for me to even consider working Christmas day. Hope you have a nice day with the kids though and can make the best of it. Very surprised parents aren't around. It's such a special day for children and the memories gained from it. A shame they miss out. |
| I've been a full time nanny for 16 years and I've never had a family even ask me to work Christmas day (I'm not Christian and would be willing). Even when I worked with a family that included two ER doctors, one or both of them were off, or relatives were in town, so they didn't need me. I've worked every single other holiday, but never Christmas day. I'm surprised they asked you. Are you traveling with them? Do you normally work Sundays? |
| Doesn't look like many people do except for critical/essential Employees in the medical, emergency and law inforcement field. Also some retail, hotel and long term care facilities will b open. I worked last year in LTC and it really sucked but I didn't mind because my family isn't here but this year I intend to relax and hang out with friends. Good luck OP just make the best out of it for the kids, as I am sure they would feel miserable as they would rather be with mom and dad on Christmas. |
| I'm a (Jewish) physician - so I always work Christmas. This year, my mom broke her arm and, though she has no interest in staying with us, needs an hour or two of help a day. So a huge, huge thank you to all those caregivers who work Christmas Eve and Christmas! I don't know what I would do without you! |
What's insane is the inability for so many to realize that Christmas Day may be a federal holiday, but many people don't celebrate it. |
| I'm working on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. The part that bugs me the most is that I'm not getting paid even a dime extra. Only an extra day off. The family I work for demands these things. 5 Christmas in a row. I work all major holidays. I mind. The lack of appreciation both verbally and financially hurts. The only reason I stay is the love from my LO. |
Not everyone is Christian.... |
| No. |
| I have federal holidays in my contract. My fed employers tried to play dumb like maybe because Christmas is on a Sunday, that that is my holiday and I should come to work on Monday. Um, are you working?? Needless to say I will not be working on Monday, and I've lost some respect for them at their attempt to get me to do so. |
Um, 5 years in a row? Have you looked for another job? If this bugs you so much, and they've already said you won't get more money, why are you still there? |
|
Even if you do not celebrate Christmas or even do anything special for the day, it is still common courtesy to be compensated double for having your services available on this MAJOR holiday.
Any employer who fails to recognize this is inconsiderate, cheap + disrespectful in my opinion.

| No. |
That's so awful to hear. Shame on them. |
