Is it important to like your nanny as a person? I often think my MB doesn't like me all that much but she seems happy enough with how I work. Personally though, I am not sure I could have someone as a nanny if I didn't actually like them.

It is important to me. I do want to point out that in some jobs you learn to be a little detached from everybody, particularly people you are paying. So that may be part of it.

It depends.

I could never have my Nanny be someone I strongly detested, however we don't have to be BFF material.

Just as long as we both have good chemistry, mesh well on a personal level + share the same childcare philosophies in general.

Most important is the quality of care she provides for my child.

This. I have to trust her to make the right decisions when it comes to care for dd and have the same outlook on certain things and we have to get along and have mutual respect. My nanny is great but there are some things we have completely different outlook on (different religions, different political views). However those do not affect her work and she does a good job, adores and dotes on dd, makes good decisions when it's important and checks with me if she's not sure.

Nanny here and every family I've worked with long term the kids have picked up habits of thought, speech and behavior from me. If you have someone you dislike spending that much time with your kid, you are actively training your kid to annoy you. That is a huge disservice to everyone involved but the kid kost of all!

It's important to me as I am home part time. I want someone I feel comfortable and like family around, almost like a second mom/grandmother figure. Maybe that's why we haven't gone the au pair route!

Clearly if I didn't like our nanny very much, she wouldn't have the job. She's the first and sometimes only adult I see every morning and my child's life is literally in her hands. I like and respect her very much.
