MB, do you give out nannys information? RSS feed

I am a nanny and babysit on occasion for a couple families. One family I only babysat for once ( now 3 times) has been giving out my contact information to friends. I appreciate that I have people contacting me but it's unnerving to have strangers have my number. Now I'm getting texts and calls from friends of friends. I think it's a little rude to give out my information without even asking me when I only babysat for them once. I don't know if I'm making a big deal about nothing.

You're making a big deal about nothing. If you don't want to work just say no. And how is it "unnerving" for strangers to have your number? I'd be more worried about them having my address or SSN, but then I'm not one to answer the phone if I don't recognize the number.

I know what you mean - I think I would appreciate a 'my friends are looking for an occasional babysitter, do you mind if i give them your number?'. But they're probably not thinking this way and instead are trying to be helpful and give you more jobs, so maybe casually thank them and tell them that you're not babysitting for others at the moment?

I'm an MB and I would NEVER give out info without checking first (and also making sure it wasn't going to be a family who would suck as an employer). I always ask our nanny if it's okay and if cheap or otherwise obnoxious friends ask, I usually just tell them that she works full time so likes to have her weekends to herself.

I think it would be flattering, though I would like to be told first.

Be smart and Up your rates. Half of them will stop calling.

OP here. Thanks. I am grateful to get work but most of these families I'm not interested in. It's also unnerving that some of the people are friends of friends and don't even know my babysitting family. It's like my contact information ( possibly my resume as well) is being shopped around to numerous families and strangers that I don't know.
